A New Alliance is Born

Three leading Scandinavian coffee companies have united in a
joint alliance. They are now set to take on the large multinational
companies that currently dominate the Scandinavian market.
The new alliance, named "Vending Gruppen", expects a turnover
this year of approximately 57 million euro, representing 300
employees and ensuring over one million cups of coffee every work
day. The group consists of Danish Cafax, Swedish AT Vending and
Norwegian Kaffe1, all of which are chains based on local
ownership.
Cafax, representing the Danish part of the alliance, is
Denmark's oldest coffee chain on the B2B market with 50 years
anniversary in 2010. Cafax is strongly represented locally and has
a large well-functioning service unit. The new alliance opens
opportunities for developing the business further and increasing
competitive ability.
Svedish AT Vending was established in 1995 in order to unite
local owner-managed companies in the vending business to achieve
economies of scale while maintaining local high level of service.
The Swedish alliance has with this initiative found an optimal
platform for further expansion. Achieving economies of scale, while
still maintaining a local quality is of central importance to the
group.
Kaffe1 Norge AS was first established in 2008 with the goal of
becoming a nation-wide supplier. The Norwegian chain consists of
local independent members that, within a short period of time, have
been able to cover 14 provinces. With this new alliance, the
company has got off to a dream start when it comes to gaining
market shares.
Large acquisitions during the last few years have made it
difficult for small local companies to exist in the face of growing
multinational corporations. According to the alliance members, the
key to success with international actors on the coffee market will,
in the future, be found in local service and ownership.
